Young orphan Pip lives with his irritable sister and her blacksmith husband, Joe. After meeting the peculiar Miss Havisham and falling in love with her adopted daughter, Estella, Pip is then taken as an apprentice in Joe’s blacksmith forge. But he is unhappy with common life now, and he longs to be a gentleman worthy of Estella’s hand. Pip is later approached by Mr. Jaggers, a London lawyer, who informs him that an anonymous benefactor has provided for him to be trained in the gentlemanly arts. Will Pip realize his “great expectations” and live the life he’s always dreamed, or will he learn that being a gentleman is different than he has always thought? Find out in this Dickens classic.
