Jay Harts
Contrary to Popular Belief
Poetry Reading

Jay Harts is an African American spoken word artist, model, and former athlete from Memphis, TN. Harts first started writing poetry at the age of fourteen and was influenced by lyrical artists such as Nas, Lupe Fiasco, and Lauryn Hill. He was influenced by authors such as Omar Tyree, Tom Burrell, Alex Hailey, and Alice Walker.

As a teen, Jay was naturally gifted with words and saw writing as an outlet to express himself. At an early age he was exposed to the arts such as music, theatre, dance, and poetry while attending the summer performing arts school, Stax Music Academy in Memphis, TN. Jay writes his material based on personal experiences and everyday observations. He considers poetry as 1/3 of his three-dimensional approach to optimal wellness, exercising the mind, body, and spirit. He sees poetry as the gateway to the truth.

Contrary To Popular Belief is Jay Harts' first literary project to be released to bookshelves. He hopes that you will learn, be empowered, and enjoy this poetic experience.
