Originally I was raised on a small tobacco farm in Charlotte County, Virginia with my adoptive parents Minnie and Roosevelt Davis. Presently, I have resided in San Antonio, Texas for forty-four years. Arriving in San Antonio after serving two and a half tours in the US Army, I taught art at both St. Gerard Elementary and St. Gerard Catholic High Schools. They were enlightening and pleasant experiences.
In my senior years I have spent a vast amount of time world traveling. Exploring the beauty and bounty of earth have often left me saddened by poverty and abandonment of our forgotten people. Throughout my travels I have navigated paths separating the impoverished from the wealthy. This is one commonality all nations share. I wonder if my small contributions make a difference in the space I occupy. Perhaps, this question was the motivational factor in penning the letter To Whom It May Concern: A Letter to All Mothers.
Memories of my youth filled with hope and the birth of opportunities once denied, inspires an old soldier to seek adventure in a time when tomorrow is not promised, yet, cruises are booked for the future. However, the yesteryears that I have lived have taught me that God is real. For I was birthed by a child who placed me in the loving arms of a couple that gave purpose to my life. Seventy-one years later I have met a small number of my biological family and stated with pride “ I am Joyce Davis Stache.”
To Whom It May Concern is a love letter to a mother who gave birth and placed her baby for adoption. It is a thank-you letter to all mothers who chose to give life and permit their baby to be embraced and sheltered in the arms of another. My love for each and all of those who adopt is inexpressible. This letter is a tribute to my beloved parents with whom I grew old.
