In Wanting & Bearing, the poet Mystikal Blue Casares uses both language and visual art to give shape to those things that have shaped him—from his deepest desires to his heaviest heartaches. These earnest poems move over their pages a few lines at a time, guiding the reader slowly and deliberately along on a personal journey from lost to found. Each illustration, whether black-and-white line drawing or fleshed out in full color, appears like a beacon to light the path. “I’ll illuminate and I will be as blue as the sky,” the poet says.
