About Valerie Johnson: From an early age, Valerie S. Johnson has loved reading books. When visiting the local bookstore, she is always drawn to the childrens section and is amazed at the creativity of the authors and illustrators. However, she feels there are not enough books featuring our beautiful children of color. Knowing that reading is power, her mission is to instill the love of reading in her little brothers and sisters of the world by creating exciting stories with positive characters that look like them. Valerie S. Johnson was born and raised in San Antonio, Texas and currently resides in Boerne, Texas with her husband Oliver, daughter Gabrielle, five dogs, three parrots and a plethora of fish. She is a member of the Southwest chapter of the SCBWI and this is her first book.
About Aziz and the Baobab Tree: After being entrusted with the last of the family money, Aziz is given the task of going to a neighboring village to purchase a goat. During his travel Aziz meets Roozani, a peculiar-looking man who seems to be able to read Azizs thoughts. After that meeting, Azizs magical adventure begins.
