Women’s Global Connection
Reach Out Africa
Friday, January 30
Reach Out Africa details the inspirational stories of successful collaborative partnerships — partnerships that led to projects improving the health and well-being of numerous African communities. Undertaken by Women’s Global Connection, a nonprofit based in San Antonio, in partnership with the University of the Incarnate Word, these projects have spanned more than a decade and resulted in community empowerment, local ownership, sustainable development, and cross-cultural engagement. In the process, the lives of communities and individuals throughout Tanzania and Zambia have been transformed.
Each chapter focuses on a specific project, from empowering women by improving access to safe water, to dealing with grief and loss created by the HIV/AIDS epidemic. Readers will discover how to engage in collective problem-solving at the community level, work collaboratively to empower women in developing countries, maximize and match the skills of volunteers to areas most needed, and mobilize culturally diverse communities to achieve desired results.
Reach Out Africa offers valuable guidelines for anyone embarking on a journey of cross-cultural engagement and capacity building.
The following authors and contributors to Reach Out Africa will be featured at the event: Tere Dresner, Ana O'Connor, Lisa Uribe-Kozlovsky, Eula Pines, Neeta Singh, Alison Buck, Mark Teachout,Sarah Williams, and Kevin B. Vichcales.
